Anthony Emmanuel Nted is a renowned player in the maritime industry of the National Economy. With positive testament to his leadership acumen, he has made giant strides in an industry fraught with industrial unrest, especially in the field of maritime labour where he has left indelible imprints in the lives and standards of several thousands of Nigerian dockworkers. He was born on 1st October 1960 at Andoni (Agwut-Obolo) in Rivers State. He had his primary and secondary education in Agwut-Obolo from where he obtained both his OND and HND in Business Administration from The Joint Professional Examination Board between 1993 and 1997. He proceeded to the University of Ado-Ekiti to further his education between 1999 and 2000 graduating with an MBA also in Business Administration.
With his educational background, it formed the template for his entrance into professional career. He started his career as the Zonal Vice President Dockworkers Union of Nigeria (DUN) where he formulated policies on dockworkers welfare from time to time, responsible for cascading standard workman’s ethics and practices as handed down by the
International Maritime Organization, the ILO and other international instruments guiding the Dock labour industry, and he was key in liaison between the Dockworkers and relevant government regulatory agencies (NIMASA, NPA, and Shippers Council).
With his penchant for excellence in leadership, his ascendancy to various executive positions along his career path was rapid. Notable among the leadership roles he has assumed in time past are President Dockworkers Union of Nigeria (DUN), Vice President Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), president general Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Chairman fair practice committee International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), Chairman Advisory Council Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) which he occupies till date.
With his enthusiasm for excellence and personal development, he has been involved in varieties of career progression workshops and seminars internationally and locally. He has pioneered many lofty agenda that has benefitted the country, the maritime sector and humanity. Notable among these admirable achievements are institution of Pioneer Condition of Service for the Dockworkers in, Successful negotiation and payment of severance allowances to disengaged Dockworkers at the advent of Port reforms in 2005, introduction of soft loan scheme in 2015 to alleviate the suffering of Dockworkers who are mainly casual workers, introduction of additional gratuity as an exit package for retrenched Dockworkers, Shipping workers and Seamen, built a befitting secretariat for Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria in Younda, Abuja, Initiated and canvassed for sponsorship for international capacity building training for dockworkers. He was awarded Maritime Man of the Year in March 2014 as a result of his contribution to the maritime industry in Nigeria.
He has considerable years and wealth of experience in leadership which he has successfully deployed in various positions along his career path. His hobbies are Singing, Travelling, Creative thinking, and Innovation of ideas. Anthony Emmanuel Nted is God fearing and philanthropic.
